flocked my pool and the timer turned the pump back on

I flocked my pool yesterday afternoon and early this morning the pump turned back on (forgot it was on a timer). The filter was in recirculate so no worries there but will I have to put more flocking agent it or will everything still settle to the bottom??

grren pool question.

shocked and algacided pool. still green. New to home. the pool was clear when we looked at hoome, and covered when we bought. we took cover off a week before shocking it, so irealize this is a problem now. should we have added sand to filter before starting? also, does the foamy scum which comes from the circulating chemicals help to clear it, or should it be removed as it forms?

If your chlorine is high (10 ppm) AND you treated it for GREEN algae, you have mustard or black algae. It won't go away until you buy an algaecide that covers the other types (they make an algaecide that treats all 3 types) if you still have the bottle, check to see if it was just fir green -- most are. I struggled with this problem fir one whole season until I figured this out. Now it's all good.

Intex Blue vinyl above ground pool
Posted 8/25/2011 11:47:56 AM by Anonymous

|
We have a 10'x16' Intex Vinyl above ground pool. I tried vacuuming the pool, however the pump that was provided with the pool does not have enough power/suction to vacuum the bottom of the pool sufficiantly. The pool water is green and i have shocked it with one bag of shock and left the pump running with chlorine tabs in the skimmer basket for 2 days. our pool is still green. Any suggestions or an answer on how to clear our pool up in the next 24 to 48 hours?

Solution for Green pools that is not due to algae

The color is due to copper. When you shock the pool the chlorene binds to the copper turing the water green. I have found that this is typically a result of corrosive water acting on the copper heater core because you don't keep your pH higher when the water is cold. Pool stores usually tell you that pH needs to be 7.4-7.8 year-around but the Saturation Index (SI) is what actually tells you whether your water is corrosive or scaling (deposits scale). You can find calculators in the internet. When the water is cold (<60 degrees F) the pH needs to be much higher to keep the water from being corrosive. After a while, the corrosive water will desolve copper in your pool. When you shock, you get green water.
Solution:
1) Use chlorene to bond to copper. Pay particular attention to the relationship between Free and Total chlorene. If total chlorene is well above Free, the difference is the chlorene that is bound to the copper. Sometimes you will add chlorene and you test the next day and there is no free chlorene, that is because the chlorene you added bound to the copper. You need to keep adding chlorene until you get 2-4ppm of free chlorene.
2) Filter the copper that has bound to the chlorene out of the water. You can add flocking agent to get the copper to "fall out of the water" to the bottom. I have vaccuumed the pool with the filter (cartredge type) cover off so that the "bad" water with the copper goes directly out of the system. You will also need to clean your filter very well. Sometimes you will need to clean it 2-3 times.
This happened to me twice in two years. It took many trips to various pool stores to learn that while they can test the water just fine, they give bad advice about this problem. In fact, I just got back from the pools store where they told me that my pH was 7.8 and needed to be lowered. In actuality, with 45 degree pool water, I need to get the pH up to 8.0 to make the water neutral.
Hope this helps.

The fact is - not even the pool chemist know what's turning our pools green. I had trouble last year, used flock to settle green to the bottom and then vacuum up. But it came back. Eventually it cleared. All winter OK. Now it went geen again. I used a clarifier and cleared it up. Went away for four days and green again. Have had the pool for 20 years and never a problem til last year. I know this sounds crazy but I think its marijuana growers. Growing in california is now legal if recommended by a phyician. It comes and goes with the marijuana season. I am going to have the green analysed this year and see if my suspicions are correct. If they are confirmed it will be a class action lawsuit.

I think you're on something yourself son. Hahaha what a load of crap

it is because your pool chemist is actually a chemist from the 60's man. They do sell reality pills however, called seven 14's

The surest way to get rid of algae is to clean the filter.
Do not buy any Algae killer, waste your money

leslies pool supplies
Posted 7/12/2010 5:58:35 PM by Anonymous

I have been going to the pool supply store once every other day and they tell me something different every time... to the tune of almost $200.00 so far. They test the water, tell me to buy and add such and such, I add it, it does nothing, I go back test again, buy more, add more and different, and do it all over again the next day. This last time I was told: IT HAS TOO MANY CHEMICALS IN IT. I am so frustrated I just want to drain it and fill it with dirt. Any recourse when these pool places don't help and just keep charging you for things that don't work?

i am having the same problem with leslies pool supplies...plus he was very rude... ill never go back...

It is VERY important that the Ph level is correct, no matter what you do. Everything else is a waste of money till it is right.
Anonymous 11/24/2012 3:52:19 PM
I had that experience with that company so I now go to a small local pool contractor that builds pools and sells pool supplies. They are amazing. They know what they re talking about and have saved me countless dollars. Look under pool contractors for your area and then call around to see if they are set up to test your water sample.

Algae forms by dust particles sometimes. Chlorine should fix it. You need to calculate the pool size as to how much is to be used. Pools are damned fickle, frustrating things. This is from Australia but hey Algae is algae no matter wher we live. It sounds like there was not enought in the pool in the first place. I'd be getting on to the pool suppliers to fix it for free. Cheers.

Clean your filter and baskets. Your pool should have a good flow which pool">http://www.artspoolplaster.com">pool and spa remodeling in LA can do. Next make sure you have balanced water. If your alkalinity is low you are running risk of staining your pool.

what can i do
Anonymous 2/17/2009 7:44:30 PM
try some type of sequestering agent. it may be oxidized copper in solution.
Anonymous 2/27/2010 1:30:46 PM
A green pool can also be caused by metal in the pool. Algaecide nor clorine will clear this up. Metal Out will clear the water.

I'm not speaking from pool knowledge but I do know that used as a singular agent.. it is toxic to algae.
