- 5 ways to operate your pool in an Eco Friendly manner ~ without spending a dime!
I was looking over my blog post of March 13, with the same name "5 ways to operate your pool in an Eco Friendly manner ..." and I realized that most of my 5 ways involved the expenditure of dollars from your pocket. New equipment is fine if you can afford it, and I hope you can ~ but there are easy ways to reduce and reuse resources around the pool, without spending a dime.

- Swimming Babies
There’s a slim chance your young one will grow up to be the next Michael Phelps but getting your little one to start swimming at a very young age can have lots of other benefits which don’t include several gold medals. Researchers have documented that early swimming has a stimulating effect and has the potential to increase intelligence, alertness, emotional and physical development. Another obvious reason to teach young children to swim is to avoid a drowning incident.

- 5 ways to operate your pool in an Eco Friendly manner
Eco Friendly practices for operating swimming pools are becoming necessary as utility costs skyrocket in some parts of the country. Also, many communities are now stewarding the natural areas surrounding their homes, keeping natural areas natural by not allowing their pools or pool owners to discharge pollutants into the air or the ground.

- Total Alkalinity in Swimming Pools
A close cousin of pH, the level of alkalinity in the water is a measurement of all carbonates, bicarbonates, hydroxides, and other alkaline substances found in the pool water. pH is alkaline dependent; that is, alkalinity can be defined as the ability of the water to resist changes in pH. Also known as the buffering capacity of the water, alkalinity keeps the pH from "bouncing" all over the place.

- Swimming Pool Basketball March Madness
Pool basketball games can be a casual affair, or a highly organized sport. Setting up two pool basketball sets at each end of the pool gives a full court advantage. Fast Breaks and Full Court Press all across the pool. Many local community recreation centers offer swimming pool basketball as kind of an intra-mural sport for enthusiasts

- Variable Speed Pool Pump OptionsThe goal of a variable speed pump or a Variable Speed Drive (VSD) motor is to increase reliability, improve system control and diagnostics while decreasing energy, maintenance and life cycle costs. The trick to minimize energy consumption so magically performed by a Variable Speed pool motor is to operate at the lowest speed needed to accomplish the job.

- Solar Pool Blankets
Bubble Wrap was the mother of today's swimming pool solar blankets. As the story goes, during the mid-1970s Sealed Air's researchers came up with another innovative use for the company's air cell technology. The Sealed Air Solar Pool Blanket was essentially a big sheet of Bubble Wrap that was placed on swimming pools. The Solar Pool Blanket allowed the sun's rays to heat the water and sharply reduced the evaporative loss of water and treatment chemicals.

- TDS ~ Total Dissolved Solids
Remember that science experiment when you were a kid? Keep pouring and stirring sugar (or salt) into a glass of water, and eventually it will stop dissolving - this happens when the water reaches it's saturation point. The TDS gets too high - this can happen in your swimming pool, too. Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) is the measurement of any dissolved solid in a liquid.

- Barriers to Entry
Barrier to Entry is the technical term for a good, solid pool fence. There is a difference between a fence and a barrier, however. Fences come in all types of shapes and conditions, but a Barrier, that is meant to keep out non swimmers. Fences may or may not be climbable, a Barrier is not. A fence may have a loose, rickety gate held in place with a bungee cord, but a Barrier - does not.

- Atlantic City Pool & Spa Show 2010
Since 1982, the North East Pool & Spa Association has hosted the Atlantic City Pool & Spa Show. And for most of those years, I have been attending, or at least since about 1988. The trade show brings together vendors, manufacturers and providers of all types together with pool builders, retailers, service companies and more. The "AC Show" has distinguished itself as a national show, although nearly 3/4 of it's 12,000 attendees are from New Jersey, Pennsylvania & New York.
